IDEA SCRAP -- Ludum Dare 43

"Sacrifices Must Be Made"

	reaction: drawing a blank.
I feel like this should be a good one,
sacrifices and being force to choose them is a good element to work with
but I am not having any initial ideas pop into my head

I think the problem is that this is sort of true of a lot of games

	Word salad time

Sacrifices:

	Chess Sacrifices
I'm not making a chess game. But maybe a kernel of an idea?
A chess game where you could be forced into sacrificing
For example: If a piece can capture a pawn then it must

That "you must do this thing" could be carried into some other game type
Like, "Thing X is useful but compelled to do un-useful thing Y if possible"
... already getting rather far from "sacrifice"

	It's plural, Sacrifices
This implies I have multiple things, and I sacrifice one, more than once

		Party of people, sac
Aliens game, darkness. Sending people out to learn the hidden map and where the danger is.
Aliens are immobile, I learn through death "shit there's one over there, be careful!"
I have to explore the space to find the exit.

Kind of a human element to these sacrifices, I kind of like it

Maybe you find and rescue people, too.
They call out... and you decide whether to take risks?
Some sacrifices are required, and some are optional.

				CONTROLS:
					left-hand list of party

Direct control: WASD + Mouse, Topdownshooter style

RTS Control: you click them to certain places?

You are on a space ship
You are finding your way to the docked rescue ship
but along the way you find escape pods and choose who goes into them
sometimes people FREAK OUT and run into the pod
or FREAK OUT and flee from danger, running off into the dark

		Sacrifices

		Economic: you can't afford everything

			You are going broke slowly
			You stuff that costs money
			sounds pretty dull

What, you decide between your kids school and your car, and ppl laugh at you at work? Weak. Menu shit.

		Territory or Buildings

Missile Command: you want to defend everything but you just can't!

TurboRTS? you have a base and are under attack, you have to sac one somehow? Seems like a lot of features and very indirect

Possible to mix Missile Command and RTS

				You have buildings and units
				Missiles rain down
				you move a shield
your job is to shield strategically so that your economic system works

		Human Sacrifice

You are a horrible demon monster and demand that the villagers on your island sacrifice their people to you

			You can bestow terrible curses
You need the sacrifices to live

			Sacrifices must be made

Villagers are interested in sacrificing non-valuable people and things to you
but you want them to give you VIRGINS and such

Yet if the village doesn't survive, your source of sacs will dry up and your power will wither away

I guess there has to be some kind of village simulation??
You try to be as greedy of a parasite as you can without tipping the system past the breaking point

				Several types of units
Maybe they offer you a few sac choices each time and you take, so you have some agency

				moves:
					- Choose which sac
					- Curses

sacs give you power -> curses take power -> curses generate fear -> fear keeps them saccing

None of these ideas are mechanically "Fun" in like the basic movement

All a bit more high-level conceptual games, not much FEELING

....

About 50 minutes in now,
like the aliens game idea best so far, maybe the demon-god thing is okayish

Actually, missile command has the most physical reality of any of this: leading targets.

	Overwhelmed Delivery

		You are delivering something
the loss of which would be bad, like a baby or puppy or something

You are hounded on the way there by some danger

The act of carrying makes it more difficult for you to survive/avoid the danger

like wolves, and you are slowly carrying sheep, and if you drop the sheep you can outrun/jump the wolves
so you dash between safe spots trying to ferry the sheep back and forth

but sometimes you get caught out and, well, sacrifices must be made!

		Side-scroller platformer jumpy guy

Alien game:

	- You are the main solider dude, sort of.
	- There are some wimpy aliens that you can handle easily, but the others struggle to fight
	- So, like, y'know, you're a little too valuable to die

	- But sacrifices must be made...

Still not too nuts about these concepts
but an hour is up, and I seem to be fixating on this aliens-in-the-dark horror game

I'm going to prototype some kind of core and see where it goes...
